Geolocation

ActiveComply inspections allow for compliance personnel members to request a pinpointed location of a personnel member at a given point in time. Geolocation capturing does not provide prolonged surveillance, but instead captures a given location at one point in time to help institutions meet various regulatory supervision requirements. As a default, captured geolocations outside of a 50 meter radius may be flagged for review. However, radius expectations may be customized based on compliance team member feedback.

Note for admin users: Geolocation radius parameter flagging is only accessible for inspections issued with an Expected Address completed.

Video Walkthrough

Below is the experience for most users to who have location settings already enabled on their phone:

Some users may have elected to disable Location Services on their phone. For these users, some additional steps may need to be taken to Allow Location Access for the inspection. This simple process is demonstrated below:

Granting Permissions

ActiveComply utilizes geolocation tracking for the location portion of the inspection survey. In order to localize a user's remote location, ActiveComply must receive access to a user's geolocation through their smartphone mobile device. The below popup will appear for users on their mobile devices. Users should select "Allow" to proceed through this portion of the inspection survey:

Note: With locations such as Townhouses/Condos/Apartments, it may or may not reflect the exact physical location, this may be due to the parameters of the geolocation tool. The system will capture the location as best as possible and the reviewing team will be able to take a closer look when the inspection is completed.

QR Code Difficulties

Scanning a QR code using a smartphone mobile device is straightforward: users first open the camera application on their smartphone and point the camera at the QR code. Users should see a popup appear in the camera frame window linking to additional information. When the popup appears, users should select the link to continue the rest of the inspection survey.

Users who may have difficulty using the displayed QR code can instead use the "Having Trouble" link on the page to have an automated email containing the survey link sent instead:

Resolving Issues

If a user selects "Don't Allow" or "Block", or experiences an error, it likely means the mobile device supports geolocation, but the mobile browser is unable to access it. To fix this, users need to ensure two things:

  1. The mobile device's location services (GPS) needs to be enabled

  2. The mobile browser itself needs to have access to the geolocation provided by the phone through the inspection survey

Instructions for iPhone

  • First, check that your phone has location enabled. Go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Location Services -> Ensure "Location Services" toggle is enabled.

  • Second, scroll down to the Safari browser app -> select "While Using the App" and ensure the "Precise Location" toggle is enabled.

  • Go back to the inspection survey and refresh the page. Select "Allow" when the popup appears and proceed with the rest of the inspection survey.

Instructions for Samsung and other Android devices (when using Chrome)

  • First, check that your phone has location enabled. Go to Settings -> Location -> Ensure "Use Location" toggle is enabled.

  • Second, return to the inspection survey. To the left of the address bar, tap the Lock icon -> Permissions. Enable the Location toggle that was blocked.

  • Go back to the inspection survey and refresh the page. Select "Allow" when the popup appears and proceed with the rest of the inspection survey.

If still experiencing issues, follow the below additional steps:

  • With Chrome open, click the dots in the upper right corner to open up the context menu.

  • Go to Settings -> Site Settings -> Location.

  • Make sure the "Location" switch is enabled.

  • Check the "Blocked" and "Allowed" lists by tapping them. If Chrome is blocked, remove it by selecting it and tapping "Clear & Reset". This will reset all permissions for the Chrome App.

  • Go back to the inspection survey and refresh the page. Select "Allow" when the popup appears and proceed with the rest of the inspection survey.

Instructions for Samsung and other Android devices (when using default Internet Browser)

  • First, check that your phone has location enabled. Go to Settings -> Location -> Ensure "Use Location" toggle is enabled.

  • Second, return to the inspection survey. When the Internet browser is open, click the dots in the upper right corner to open up the context menu.

  • Select Settings -> Privacy -> Delete personal data. Select only "Location access data" and click Delete. This resets your browser's location access settings.

  • Go back to the inspection survey and refresh the page. Select "Allow" when the popup appears and proceed with the rest of the inspection survey.
